A really nice Schoenhut doll with issues

This is one of the more sought after Schoenhut dolls.

She is their bonnet head model.

She has arrived to have some restoration.

When dealing with a fairly valuable item, how much restoration to do to it is always a debatable topic.

Schoenhut dolls are prone to paint dings and chips. Sometimes chunks of paint fall off the wood surfaces.

Should one restore this doll?

This doll was examined closer and, in fact, had a full facial repaint at some point. It was probably a good looking repaint when it was done but the repainted surface is now failing. The white areas are a filler used before the repaint went on. The filler is soft and crumbling away from the wood.
The lips were repainted a little too red and a little too thin.

So this doll will get the failing repaint and filler removed.

Here she is with the repaint and filler removed.

Here she is with some new filler.

Here she is with her new repaint done.

She has some paint losses on her bonnet and areas of old repaint, but it does not detract. So her bonnet will stay as is.

Her body has an old total repaint.
It is darker than ideal but it had been done well and is in good shape.
Her body will be left as is.
