Baby Crissy....times two

These big dolls are both 'Baby Crissy' from the early 1970's.
Baby Crissy had 'growing hair' which was a ponytail that you could lengthen or shorten with a pull cord coming out of her back.
They both need cleaning, hair-styling and a few dents removed.

This one is in not too bad shape.
She still has her ponytail but it is tangled and does not change length.

This one is missing her ponytail and has had  a bad haircut.
Plus she has been decorated with pink marker.
Her head is squashed and one leg too.
Her torso has an odd fading of the vinyl......this fading is not fixable.

After a good scrub and hairwash plus comb-out, this one looks better.
And her ponytail works again!

The various stains that did not come out with the basic bath are addressed with an acne cream.
Some acne creams contain benzoyl peroxide which will remove many dyes. The best preparations to use on dolls will contain 10% benzoyl peroxide.

Sunshine accelerates the colour removal process. It might take several days and sometimes even weeks to remove the unwanted stains. So apply the BP cream to the marks and start the basking.

This particular basking scene caused some worried comments from my parent-in-laws when they came over for dinner!
The dolls arm was removed to facilitate installing her new pony tail but apparently made her look like an unfortunate accident victim instead of a happy sun worshiper.
.

This Crissy has had most of her marks removed with the benzoyl peroxide and now has her ponytail in curlers.

The other Crissy has had many marks removed with the BP cream.
She has also gotten a new ponytail installed. With a new functioning pull-cord.
But now her new ponytail emphasizes the frizziness of what was left of her original hair.  This calls for some rerooting..... ie installing new plugs of hair into the old follicles.

And she needs eyelashes. One set was totally missing. The other set come out during her cleansing.
False eyelashes can be trimmed to the right length and then glued into the empty grooves in her eyeball.

And so she looks like this now.
New eyelashes, new bangs and a new ponytail.
Her head and leg dents are gone.

Well, they both look better than when they arrived?

  1. How would I repair a retracted leg on the baby crissy doll? It retract into her body.

  2. Hi I'm starting to rehab a Baby crissy for my aunt. The pullstring is broke. How can I fix it and where can I order a new pony for her.I've been rehabbing AG and that is nothing like this Friday doll. Thank you

  3. The pull string on Baby Chrissy is a fairly easy fix. Trying to find the replacement ponytail will be harder. The source on eBay where the one Cissy on this page got a ponytail is gone.
